Becoming a Member
Any person holding a full licence may apply to join the group. An Associate member is one who has not passed the RoADAR test. The membership subscription on joining is £45.00, which includes the annual membership subscription and a copy of the Police Drivers Handbook "Roadcraft". In the unlikely event that you have not passed your test after 1 year, the membership renewal subscription is £22.00 Any Associate who passes the test, becomes a Full member of the group. The West Midlands Group membership fee for Full members is £14.00 due annually. New members who are already a current member of RoADAR may join the West Midlands Group but their initial subscription will be £22.00. One or two of our members have chosen not to get heavily involved with the with the Group as a Friend. The annual subscription is £10.00

Approved Tutors
Since the 1st January 2006, RoSPA have introduced a new tutor qualification called the Approved Tutor.
Approved Tutor is a recognised qualification to enable the West Midlands Group to continue training more drivers to become RoSPA advanced drivers You can train and become an Advanced Tutor.
The West Midland Group has been accepted by RoSPA to train and test Approved Tutors. This qualification will mean the member can train group associates for the RoSPA advanced driving test, just as your Tutor trained you.

Advanced Tutors
The RoSPA National Diploma in Advanced Driving Instruction has become the highest open qualification for post-test instructors in the UK. It provides access to the DSA Fleet Register
Up until the 1st January 2006 the West Midlands Group Diploma Course Diploma in Advance Driving tuition qualification. Since then, RoSPA have replaced the Group Diploma with two levels of tutor qualifications called Approved Tutor and Advanced Tutor. Approved Tutor. RoSPA HQ will test Advanced Tutors.

Advanced drivers have been trained to look and see the things that can be seen, to anticipate the things that can't be seen, to analyze what has been seen and anticipated, They are then more aware of what may happen based on probability, (see the cat run into the road, expect to see the dog chasing it). Skill:
Advanced drivers have the skill to make informed judgments on situations; they have the confidence to know when 30 mph in a 30 mph speed limit is too fast, with an attitude that makes them reduce their speed. smoothly, with the finesse that would make their passengers think they had driven on that road many times before.

The RoSPA Advanced driving test lasts for approximately 90 minutes and is conducted over a route covering all types of roads and traffic conditions, including Motorways. The test is designed to evaluate a drivers understanding and ability to drive at a very high standard and will detect any weaknesses or potentially dangerous driving habits.
The examiner will then explain that you will be driving a pre-determined route and that they will be giving directional instructions.
